Title and Intention
How this publication got its name, and why now is as good a time as any to begin (again).
Eleventh Hour represents:
my bent toward procrastinating
my experience of God delivering when all seems lost
the Parable of the Vineyard Workers where the term derives its roots
and finally, this meme
I’ve been dabbling in writing since childhood using various means and outlets to scratch the itch, so this venture is more of a continuation than a new project. My family and I moved to the DC metro area in 2016. A couple years later I took some master’s classes and eventually ended up working full-time, so creative writing came to a halt outside the pages of my journal. A lot of life happened in that wild, beautiful place I call home.
Now, I’m a nomad in the middle of a month-long PCS move to the sunflower state (nomad means not being mad during the journey, right?). I’m confronted with an invitation to embody the rhythms of rest and contemplation I read in all those books waiting in storage halfway across the country. My perfectionistic brain (let’s call her “Liz”) begs me to wait until I am properly settled in the new house, but she forgets I’m over 40 now and have a fondness for creating new neuropathways. Sorry not sorry, Liz. Sitting in the sunroom at my in-law’s in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by my plants from home and one of my kitties napping on the couch, I think today is a perfect day to start.
I look forward to sharing stories, reviews, and thought pieces with you, and hopefully have a few guest contributors along the way. Together, we can watch this publication blossom from its early morning to the eleventh hour.
Be well, friends.
Lol’d at the “nomad” joke! Also, I need to name my inner perfectionist too!!
